Trails around Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley include short nature walks, longer hiking routes, mountain biking systems, horseback-riding trails, and off-road routes at Turkey Bay. The largest concentration is found in Land Between the Lakes, where trails cross wooded ridges, interior lakes, historic areas, and stretches of undeveloped shoreline. Additional routes can be found at state parks, public recreation areas, and other sites throughout the region, giving visitors options that range from an easy walk to a full day on the trail.

Some trails in Land Between the Lakes are built around a specific activity or type of access. Turkey Bay Off-Highway Vehicle Area contains designated routes for motorcycles, ATVs, side-by-sides, and other permitted off-road vehicles, with terrain that ranges from maintained trails to steeper, more technical sections. Wranglers Campground serves as the center of LBL’s horseback-riding network, providing access to miles of wooded trails and backroads designed for riders exploring the southern portion of the recreation area.
Long Creek National Recreation Trail offers a different experience. The short, paved route travels through a quiet wetland area between Honker Lake and Hematite Lake and is designed to accommodate wheelchairs and other mobility devices. Together, these specialty trail areas extend LBL beyond traditional hiking and mountain biking, giving off-road riders, equestrians, and visitors seeking a paved, accessible route their own ways to experience the landscape.
