Cadiz is the Trigg County seat and the primary community serving the eastern side of Lake Barkley. Its downtown includes local shops, restaurants, historic buildings, and the Janice Mason Art Museum, while the surrounding county reaches west to Lake Barkley and Land Between the Lakes. That combination gives Cadiz a broader role than many communities around the lakes: it is both a working county seat and the service center for a large area of shoreline, resorts, campgrounds, and rural communities.

Cadiz sits several miles east of Lake Barkley, but its connection to the lake reaches across much of Trigg County. Visitors staying near State Park Road, Canton, Rockcastle, or the eastern entrances to Land Between the Lakes commonly travel through Cadiz for restaurants, groceries, supplies, and other services.
The city itself is organized around Main Street and the Trigg County courthouse. Downtown businesses occupy a mix of older commercial buildings, with antique stores, specialty shops, restaurants, and community organizations located within a relatively compact area. The Janice Mason Art Museum operates from the former Cadiz post office and presents rotating exhibitions, classes, workshops, and theatrical programming through the Cadiz Community Arts Center.
Local history is also preserved at the Trigg County Historical and Transportation Museum. Its exhibits cover the former Cadiz Railroad, Black history in Trigg County, the Cumberland River, and the communities that once stood between the Tennessee and Cumberland rivers before Land Between the Lakes was established.
Each October, the Trigg County Country Ham Festival brings vendors, food, music, contests, and community activities to Cadiz. The festival is one of the city’s longest-running public traditions and explains the painted pig statues found around town.
West of the city, Lake Barkley State Resort Park provides lodging, cabins, camping, golf, boating access, and other recreation along the lake. Farther west, U.S. Highway 68 crosses Lake Barkley at Canton and continues into Land Between the Lakes. Cadiz ties these areas together by providing the civic, commercial, and cultural center behind the shoreline.

The center of Cadiz is several miles east of Lake Barkley. The Cadiz mailing area, however, covers a large portion of Trigg County, including lakeside resorts, marinas, campgrounds, vacation rentals, and Lake Barkley State Resort Park. This is why many properties described as being in Cadiz are located well outside the city limits and closer to the water.
The Trigg County Country Ham Festival is Cadiz’s annual fall celebration, held in October. Events generally include live music, food vendors, arts and crafts, contests, children’s activities, and other programs around downtown Cadiz. The festival’s country-ham theme is also reflected in the painted pig statues placed around the community.
The Janice Mason Art Museum presents rotating exhibitions featuring local, regional, and visiting artists. It also offers art classes, workshops, educational programs, and special events. The museum is part of the Cadiz Community Arts Center, which also supports live theater through Southern Kentucky Independent Theatre.
Cadiz is east of Land Between the Lakes, with the northern portion of the recreation area reached by following U.S. Highway 68 west across Lake Barkley. The distance varies depending on the destination inside Land Between the Lakes, but the nearest entrances and attractions are generally a short drive from the Cadiz area.
