Scott Patton builds his Kentucky Lake guide trips around what the angler wants to accomplish. A day may be spent recreational bass fishing, learning a particular technique, becoming familiar with the lake or preparing for a tournament. Scott guides on Kentucky Lake from April through November.

Instruction can cover shallow or deep-water patterns, finesse fishing, deep cranking, spoon fishing, ledge fishing, flipping and pitching, the shad spawn, or locating mussel beds. Anglers choose the subject, and the trip is organized around helping them better understand that part of bass fishing. Scott also provides map marking and lake-familiarization services for visitors who want a clearer picture of Kentucky Lake’s channels, structure and navigation concerns.

Tournament preparation goes beyond identifying individual fishing spots. Scott works with anglers on developing a strategy, considering how fish may relocate when the weather changes and putting together an approach for competition. The same planning can also help a recreational angler understand why a pattern is working.

Rods, reels and life jackets are supplied for guided trips. Guests should bring fishing licenses, food, drinks, sunscreen, rain gear and clothing appropriate for the season, along with any personal equipment discussed beforehand.
